Bringing Stamp Collecting into the 21st Century

Then and Now....Stamp Collecting can still be fun!

How many of us remember when we used to rush to get the mail to see if there was a new and different stamp on any of the envelopes, one that we could add to our collection? Oh, the happiness that we felt whenever a new stamp came our way unexpectedly!

Well, now it’s 2018 and sadly, snail mail is fading rapidly. The days of non-self-adhesive stamps are falling behind us, and the future is more electronic and less paper oriented.

So, what’s a stamp collector to do?

I can tell you, the hunt is on! In this day and age of instant gratification, there is still excitement to be found searching for that elusive stamp that you can never seem to find. With avenues open to collectors, like Herrick Stamp, Ebay, and Amazon, it can be just as exciting now to finally find that one stamp, as it was when we were younger and waiting for the postman to arrive.

Herrick Stamp Company handles ALL the new issues from all over the world, and it’s fun to see the new stamp designs from other countries, and wonder how future stamp collectors will feel about this great hobby.

So, hop onto our website at http://www.herrickstamp.com and find those stamps you’ve been searching for!

WINTER IS COMING!!

WINTER IS COMING!!

Well, Royal Mail of Great Britain has done it again! In the same vein as the Star Wars stamps released in the past two years, Royal Mail has issued a set of Game of Thrones commemorative stamps. The illustrations on the stamps are truly beautiful and capture the richness of the show (Can you tell I’m a fan?).

Each stamps pictures a different character from the show, and in the background are images associated with that character. Of course, you can purchase the stamps and all the other postal products at our website. The link for all the Game of Thrones products is HERE.

And while we all eagerly await the return of the show for it’s final season, we can collect these beautiful stamps and wonder what on earth is going to happen with Daenarys and Jon Snow!

Enjoy!

Disney Villains are Here!

Who doesn't love a good villain?

On July 15, 2017, the US Post Office issued Forever Stamps picturing 10 Villains from some of the most iconic Disney films.

Each stamp showcases one of 10 classic Disney villains against a blue background: Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Honest John (Pinocchio), Cruella De Vil (One Hundred and One Dalmatians), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), Lady Tremaine (Cinderella), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), the Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), and Scar (The Lion King). The words “USA” and “FOREVER” appear in the top right corner or bottom right corner of each stamp and the name of the classic villain and the movie in which the character appears runs along the left edge.
The selvage area features the Queen from Snow White standing in front of an ornate background. The reverse side of the sheet includes drawings of the 10 characters and a quote by each one:

Maleficent: “You poor simple fools! Thinking you could defeat me, me, the Mistress of All Evil!”

Honest John: “If we play our cards right, we’ll be on easy street, or my name isn’t Honest John!”

Cruella De Vil: “So, they thought they could outwit Cruella.”

Captain Hook: “Blast that Peter Pan!”

Queen of Hearts: “Off with their heads!”

(Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), and Scar (The Lion King).

This sheet is sure to become a collectors item and is available HERE on our website, along with ALL the newest Worldwide New Issues available.

Happy 70th Anniversary HERRICK STAMP!!!

How it all began…..

We started our stamp business over seventy years ago with new issue distribution of the 1946 Peace issue from the British Commonwealth nations. Demand was strong and over the next two years, we sold almost nine thousand collections. This launched our Commonwealth new issue service which rapidly became the leader in this field. We also began to retain British Commonwealth stamps for inventory and to gradually build America’s largest stock of mint sets 1935 to date.

There were not many new issues in the late 1940’s and collectors could afford to collect the entire British Commonwealth. The Silver Wedding issues of 1948 changed that as there were very high face values involved. Some of these sets were in short supply and had a rapid price appreciation that has lasted until today. On account of the popularity and financial success of the 1948 Wedding issue, the 1949 UPU Anniversary Omnibus was a sure fire winner and British Commonwealth stamps were firmly established as the most popular overseas stamps collected in America. Our want list service for Older British Commonwealth issues began in 1950.

The 1953 Coronation of the popular Princess Elizabeth solidified British Commonwealth collecting for the next fifty years. Starting with Ghana inaugural issue of 1957, we entered into the worldwide new issue field with complete coverage of all nations and topics, and we expanded our inventory of older stamps to worldwide. Topical stamps such as Birds , Trains , Space , Olympics and Christmas gained strength starting in the early 1960’s.

We have continued worldwide coverage throughout the years; passing through tremendous surges of interest in such areas of Post War Europe, Ryukyu , Middle Eastern nations, Australian area , Channel Islands, Japan and currently Pacific Rim nations. We have seen topical interest run from Famous Paintings and Refugee Year to Diana Wedding , World Wildlife Fund , Hologram and Famous Entertainers.

The point is that over the past seventy years, Herrick Stamp Company has delivered more New Issue stamps to more collectors in the USA than anyone else. In 1946, we operated out of a small extra bedroom on Herrick Drive in Lawrence, New York. Today, we have a staff of sixty and 6000 square feet of office space loaded with computers, telephones and office equipment. I am not sure that this is an improvement over the way we operated in 1946, but it is necessary to keep up with the ever increasing flow of new issues and more importantly with the ever evolving collecting needs of our customers.

I do not expect to see soon again nine thousand collectors all subscribing to an issue like the 1946 Peace Omnibus. Collectors today are more diverse in their collecting interests. What we have seen over the past few years is a tremendous resurgence in stamp collecting on the Internet. Herrick lists all the new issues on our website - www.herrickstamp.com -  and updates the listing every two weeks. All stamps are illustrated.

Whatever your collecting interests are today and however they might change in the future, Herrick Stamp Company will be here to serve you and bring ease and enjoyment to your new issue collecting. Please stop by and visit our website and let us know how Herrick can help you.
