New Issue Stamps....What's the Buzz About??

What is it about new issue stamps that I seem to like best?

It is the freshness of them. So many collectors like nostalgia and older stamps. New Issues have a more forward looking appeal. It would be logical to assume that older collectors like older stamps and newer (younger) collectors line new stamps.

I like them both. My collecting interests are forward and backward looking at the same time. Great Britain Penny Black #1 is as interesting as the most recent Great Britain commemorative set. I especially like the new British Prime Ministers issue.  But then again I started collecting in the era of King George VI and I really really like all commonwealth KGVI stamps.

So, whether you collect old stamps or new stamps, Herrick Stamp is the best place to shop for all your collecting needs.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Another Stamp Collecting Perspective

From time to time I will post a blog entry written by someone other than myself. I like to give the perspective of other stamp enthusiasts and get a glimpse of the philatelic world through their eyes.

Musings of a Stamp Collector.....

I was mounting a set of China (Taiwan) 1966 Fruits in a stock book. Not hinging it mind you when I thought about the innocence of the designs of Scott # 1414-17.  While the China Republic Stamps were vaguely anti-communist in that era, the stamps from the Peoples Republic of China were still stuck in the Cultural Revolution of the 1960’s.

China PRC stamps were all about Mao Tse-tung and stamps of the Republic of China were starting to take on a life of their own.  In those days China Republic still held a security council seat at the United Nations and PRC wanted to replace the Taiwan representation as if it was speaking for all of mainland China.

Politicians in the USA were screaming about the immoral communists and the righteous President Chiang Kai-shek.  It all seems so long ago and so far away now.

Stamps of China PRC are just so hot and stamps from the Republic of China (Taiwan) are as cold as a mountain breeze.

It started me thinking about the rest of that region and I started wondering about Korea stamps. Right now North Korean stamps are embargoed and the people and leadership of that country excoriated in the press and in Congress. The South Koreans are virtuous and prosperous and their stamps are popular. Someday there will be a change in the North and their stamps will become popular and their people will be free and productive. No timeline offered here. Just as the communists used to say “it is the inevitability of history”.

Back to me now!

We offer hundreds of different China PR stamps, China-Taiwan stampsSouth Korea stamps and North Korea stamps on our website. Please be sure to visit our New Issue gallery for the most up-to-date listings of worldwide newly issued stamps!

Stamp Collecting Can Be Funny!

Stamp Collecting – Time to Laugh!

Here’s a fun issue from Canada celebrating the lives of famous Canadian comedians.

Featured on the 5 stamp set are:

Mike Myers – who could forget him on Saturday Night Live, Wayne’s World or as the infamous Austin Powers & Dr. Evil!

Martin Short – an amazingly talented actor and comedian. Featured on SCTV and Saturday Night Live, he is currently appearing on the new TV show Mulaney.

Catherine O’Hara – Also from SCTV, she is probably best known (at least by me!) as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice and as Macaulay Culkin’s mother in Home Alone.

Olivier Guimond – Although not famous in America, he is quite well-known in his native Canada for the roles he played on television in the 60’s and 70’s.

Jim Carrey – a comic genius! His breakthough roll on In Living Color, catapulted him to fame and his later appearances in Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb & Dumber, etc., cemented his place is comedic history.

Click here to see this set.

Check us out at www.herrickstamp.com for more new issue stamps, including this Canadian issue. We update our listings every two weeks and all our worldwide new issues are fully illustrated.

However, we are very knowledgeable folks, and on our website we have a section that gives clear insight into the stamp market and the value of stamps from various areas around the world.

Click here to get a glimpse of what the real work stamp market is like and what stamp collecting trends we see happening.

And don’t forget to browse around and check out ALL the stamps we offer – bargain stamps, new issue stamps, rare stamps and wholesale lots and stamp collections. We are a complete philatelic service and would love to help you with your stamp collecting hobby.

Stamp Collecting – It’s not your Grandpa’s hobby anymore!

Hello! My name is Doris and I love stamps! Sounds crazy, I know, but I really am fascinated by those little pieces of paper that bring history and the world to life.

Luckily for me, I also get to work with stamps, so I can enjoy them every day.
This blog is intended to share information about the newest worldwide stamps that have been issued. I will try to highlight one or two issues in each blog entry.

So, welcome to my world!

The first issue I’d like to highlight comes from Switzerland. The stamp is centered on a souvenir sheet that is designed to look like a vinyl record on an old fashioned record player. But here’s the kick….when you take the stamp off the souvenir sheet and put it on a record player, it really plays music! It plays a brass band version  of the Swiss national anthem at 33 rpm.

Our company, Herrick Stamp, sells this amazingly innovative Swiss postage stamp and thousands of other new issues from around the world. We update our inventory every two weeks, and all our new issue stamps are fully illustrated.

Please visit us and have a look around. You never know what kind of stamp they’ll think of next!
